What have I learnt? – Drawing Closer to God

What have you learnt from this time of drawing closer to God?

Take some time now to reflect on what God has revealed to you over these past thirty days. I encourage you to write your answers in your journal.

  1. What has God revealed to me about Himself?
  2. What has God revealed to me about myself?
  3. What’s the next thing I will do to keep drawing closer to God?

Re question 3, there are so many great resources available online, especially at this time! Check out what your church is offering.

Thank you for joining me on this thirty day journey. For me, even though I wrote this material about 4 years ago, God has continued to minister to me through it over these past few weeks. I trust that you have had some wonderful encounters with God too.

It is finished – Day 30 – Drawing Closer to God

Here we are – Day 30! Thank you Jesus for all you have done in the past 30 days, for all you have shown us, for all you have helped us with, and for all the healing you have done. Today we are declaring ‘It is finished’ in Jesus Name. (Day 30 – YouTube)

Remember to have your pen and paper ready for what God says to you today. There will be one final reflection day tomorrow, so look out for that post!

Day 30 – It is finished

God loves you. He hasn’t left you or forsaken you or your family.

Scriptures

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises. In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. Psalm 22:1-5 NIV

Posterity will serve Him; they will tell of the Lord to the next generation. They will come and declare His righteousness to a people yet to be born – that He has done it [and that it is finished]! Psalm 22:30-31 AMP

Christ’s sufficiency – Day 29 – Drawing Closer to God

I find it hard to remember what life was like before I became a Christian, about 25 years ago. I wish I’d kept a journal as it would have probably documented my anguish as I tried and tried and tried to work out the path for my life. Forever I will be grateful for God’s grace and mercy in giving me the opportunity to do life with Him through Jesus. Today as we focus on Christ’s sufficiency, let’s not forget where He brought us from. Bless you and may you hear from God today. (Day 29 – YouTube)

Day 29 – Christ’s sufficiency

Jesus will give you the grace you need to get through this day.

Scriptures

Philippians 4 (Amplified version)…

Verse 4 – Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice!

Verse 9 – The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you.

Verse 13 – I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfil His purpose – I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]

Verse 19 – And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Verse 23 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

The Son of God – Day 28 – Drawing Closer to God

Let’s just lay everything down today and focus completely on Jesus. Be expectant that in these few minutes today, that God will give you greater revelation of who Jesus is – The Son of God. (Day 28 – YouTube)

Remember to have your pen and paper ready to record what God says to you.

Day 28 – The Son of God

Heavenly Father, please give us greater revelation of who Jesus is.

But these have been written so that you may believe [with a deep, abiding trust] that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed), the Son of God; and that by believing [and trusting in and relying upon Him] you may have life in His name. John 20:31 AMP

And so the Living Expression became a man and lived among us! And we gazed upon the splendor of his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father overflowing with tender mercy and truth!

John taught the truth about him when he announced to the people, “He’s the One! Set your hearts on him! I told you he would come after me, even though he ranks far above me,for he existed before I was even born.”

And now out of his fullness we are fulfilled! And from him we receive grace heaped upon more grace! John 1:14-16 TPT

The River – Day 27 – Drawing Closer to God

At the end of today’s devotion, I have suggested a visualisation activity with a beautiful instrumental track. I really encourage you to give it a go and find yourself in the river of God’s love for you. (Day 27 – YouTube)

Remember to write down or draw whatever God shows you during that time.

Day 27 – The River

Keep pressing into God, just as you are, for there is the river of life. And what happens in the river of life? We flourish.

Wherever the river flows, life will flourish – great schools of fish – because the river is turning salt water into fresh water. Where the river flows, life abounds. Ezekiel 47:9 The Message

The lives of God-loyal people flourish. Proverbs 15:6 The Message

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, flowing with water clear as crystal, continuously pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Revelation 22:1 TPT

We are God’s children – Day 26 – Drawing Closer to God

Some days it’s not easy being a parent, but I am always thankful for God’s grace that is sufficient when I muck up. And I get so much comfort from reminding myself that I am God’s child and He will love me regardless, all because of what Jesus did on the Cross. Remember today, we are God’s children and we are loved. (Day 26 – YouTube)

DAY 26 – We are God’s children

Let’s remind ourselves about Who we belong to and what is ours according to His promises.

Scriptures

Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.
Galatians 4:7 The Message

For no matter where I am, even when I’m far from home, I will cry out to you for a father’s help. When I’m feeble and overwhelmed by life, guide me into your glory, where I am safe and sheltered. Psalm 61:2 TPT

God’s favour is on us – Day 25 – Drawing Closer to God

In the midst of dark times it can be difficult to be believe that God is good. There is a simple prayer we can pray, asking God to help us return to a place of trusting Him … “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” (Ref Mark 9:23-27). God’s favour is on us. (Day 25 – YouTube)

Remember to have your pen and paper ready to record what God says to you this morning. He is waiting for you to commune with Him.

DAY 25 – God’s favour is on us

We are surrounded by His favour, even in the dark times.

Scripture

O LORD my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:2-5 NKJV

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Isaiah 58:11 NIV

Are you feeling like you need a tangible touch of God’s love today? During the worship time today I encourage you to close your eyes and imagine yourself being embraced by your Heavenly Father. Let His Holy Spirit minister to you and bring healing to where there is hurting. (Day 24 – YouTube)

Day 24 – God’s watching over us

How comforting it is to know that God is watching over us today.

Scripture

The LORD bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you]; The LORD make His face to shine upon [with favour], and be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness]; The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval], and give you peace [a tranquil heart and life]. So Aaron and his sons shall put My name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.
Numbers 6:24-27 AMP

Jehovah himself will watch over you;
He’s always at your side to shelter you safely in his presence.
He’s protecting you from all danger both day and night.
He will keep you from every form of evil or calamity as he continually watches over you.

Jesus is with us – Day 23 – Drawing Closer to God

I love the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego for many reasons, but especially because it illustrates that Jesus can rescue us from the situations that seem un-rescuable! In the worship time today, let’s declare that Jesus is with us and He is our rescuer. (Day 23 – YouTube)

Remember to have your pen and paper ready to write what God says to you during this devotion time.

Day 23 – Jesus is with us

Jesus is in ‘this’ with you.

Scripture

So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.

But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”

“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.

“Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted, “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”

God is listening – Day 22 – Drawing Closer to God

Sometimes it may seem as if God isn’t listening to our prayers. But God is listening. It’s just that He isn’t answering them in the way that we think He should. That’s why we need patience and faith. Now is a great time to grow in both these areas. (Day 22 – YouTube)

DAY 22 – God is listening

God is always available and He’s always listening.

Scripture

Incline Your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am distressed and needy [I long for Your help]. Protect my life (soul), for I am godly and faithful;

O You my God, save Your servant, who trusts in You [believing in You and relying on You, confidently committing everything to You.]

Be gracious and merciful to me, O Lord, for to You I cry out all the day long. Make Your servant rejoice, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul [all that I am – in prayer].

For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever]; and abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to all those who call upon You.

Hear, O Lord, my prayer; and listen attentively to the voice of my supplications (specific requests)! In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me.
